The Lord is
my light and my salvation; whom do I fear? The Lord is my life's
refuge; of whom am I afraid? Psalm 27:1

ARE YOU A NEW WINESKIN?
And no man puts new wine into old wineskins; else the new wine will
burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins shall perish. But
new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. No man
also, having drunk old wine, straightway desireth new; for he saith, the
old is better. LUKE 5:37-39
WINESKIN: sewed up animal skins used as we use
beverage bottles
CHARACTERISTICS OF AN OLD WINESKIN
A. In the natural
1. No elasticity or flexibility
2. New wine splits old wineskins because the violence of the
fermentation Bursts
the wineskin open.
B. In the spiritual
1. Bound up in religious tradition of men rather than weighing out what
the Bible scripture says (Making the word of God of no effect through
your tradition, which you have delivered, and many such things you do.
Mark 7:13) Jesus was crucified because he preached against
religious tradition.
2. Refuses to receive present truth (You are of your father the devil
and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the
beginning and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own; for he is a liar and the
father of it. John 8:44)
3. Resists new move of God (And they watched Him, whether He would heal
Him on the Sabbath day, that they might accuse Him. Mark 3:2)
4. Represents Law (But in vain they do worship me, teaching for
doctrines the
Commandments of men. Matthew 15:9)
CHARACTERISTICS OF A NEW WINESKIN
A. In the natural
1. Flexible
2. Able to hold new wine
B. In the spiritual
1.
Not bound by religious tradition (For in Him [not in religious
tradition]we live and move and have our being. Acts 17:28)
2. Open to present truth (Wherefore, I will not be negligent to
put you always in remembrance of these things, though you know them, and
are established in the present truth. 2nd Peter 1:12)
3.Open to the Holy Spirit (If you then, being evil, know how to
give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly
Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask for Him? Luke 11:13)
4. Represents Grace, New Life and Freedom (And God is able to
make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all
sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work. 2nd
Corinthians 9:8) Old wine skins to hold wine must be soaked in water to
soften them. Then they must be greased with oil to prevent leaking and
evaporation. They are often boiled in hot water and pounded to add
flexibility and sterilized by adding sulphuric acid.
Wine=The Holy Spirit; fullness of joy (Is. 65:8, Jer. 31:12,
Hos 2:22, Judges 9:13, Psalm 104:15, Eph. 5:18, Matt. 9:17)
Wineskin=individual believer or the local church (Matt 9:17)
Water=Holy Spirit(John 7:37-39) & Cleansing (Eph 5:26,
Isaiah 4:4)
How do we become New Wineskins able to hold New Wine or present
day truth and revelation and fullness of joy?
1. Walk a Wilderness Experience: Luke 4:1-14 -Jesus went into the
wilderness full of the Holy Spirit led by the Holy Spirit to be tempted
by the devil. He returned from this 40 days of fasting in the power of
the Spirit. Hosea writes, “I did know you in the wilderness, in the land
of great drought.” Hosea 13:5
2. Count it all joy! Beloved, think it not strange concerning the
fiery trial which is to test you, as though some strange thing happened
unto you, but rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s
sufferings that, when His glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also
with exceeding joy. 1st Peter 4:12-13 My brethren, count it all
joy when you fall into various trials, knowing this, that the testing of
your faith works patience. James 1:2 Though he were a Son, yet
learned He obedience by the things which He suffered, and being made
perfect, He became author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey
Him. Heb.5:9 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ,
not only to believe on Him but also to suffer for His sake.
Philippians 1:29 yea, and all that will live godly lives in Christ
Jesus shall suffer persecution. 2nd Timothy 3:12
3. Push through. …Occupy till I come. Luke 19:13 Brethren,
I count not myself to have apprehended, but this one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those
things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the
high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 for
consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself,
lest you be wearied and faint in your mind. Hebrews 13:3-4
4. Recognize that without Him you are NOTHING! I have heard of
you by the hearing of the ear, but now mine eye sees you. Wherefore, I
abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes. Job 42:5-6 “Then said
I, Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips, and I
dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for mine eyes have seen
the King, the Lord of hosts. Isaiah 6:5 Therefore, I was left
alone and saw this great vision, and there remains no
strength in me, for my attractiveness was turned in me into corruption,
and I retained no strength. Daniel 10:8 And when I saw him, I
fell at his feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying
unto me, “Fear not; I am the first and the last; I am He that lives, and
was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys
of hell and of death.” Revelation 1:17
5. Love not the things of the world. For all that is in the
world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of
life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1st John 2:15
Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1st Thess. 22: Set your
affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:2
